Dear Readers,
I am honored to have assumed the post of Consul-General of Japan in Dubai as of September 2026.
This is my first assignment in the Middle East, a region of great importance to Japan from the perspective of energy security and other factors. I am very much looking forward to serving here, while at the same time keenly aware of the responsibility that accompanies this role.
Dubai continues to develop as one of the world’s leading global cities and plays an important role not only within the Middle East but also as a trade, logistics and tourism hub connecting the region with Asia, Europe and Africa. Dubai and the Northern Emirates are home to the largest Japanese community in the Middle East and Africa, with numerous Japanese companies operating here. Furthermore, exchanges with Japan continue to expand across a wide range of fields, including business and culture. I am committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of Japanese nationals residing in the region and to supporting the activities of Japanese companies.
In recent years, the scope of cooperation between Japan and the UAE has expanded significantly, encompassing areas such as the economy, advanced technology, decarbonization, culture, education and tourism. Making the most of Dubai’s unique position as a hub connecting the Middle East with the wider world, I intend to promote various initiatives to share the appeal of Japan with more people and encourage deeper exchanges with the region. Through these efforts, I also hope to contribute to the further strengthening of the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.
